I don’t know anything about art,It’s too expensive for me, I am a bachelor, I spend too much on myfoundation, I don’t have any family or things like that to look after. Artis for people who are refined, who have the eye to appreciate it, I have none ofthose talents. I live very simply.
I play up my age, I am going to be 45 and I have no problemsaying it. I am not the kind of actor who’s desperately trying to be youngall the time. I can run 21km; I can play rugby and squash. My age is on theinternet, I can’t even lienow!
This year I will be having a hugesports auction. I tweeted about Baichung recently and spoke to him. He is comingfor my sports auction’s press conference and unveiling of the pieces. He’s a friend and he has donated stuff for my sports auctions in the past. This year, on the proceeds of the auction will go to victims of the Sikkimearthquake. Especially for Baichung I said, ‘you come to my auction, sellyour stuff and I will give those proceeds to your foundation’. We have gotan F1 2012 vest signed by Sebastian Vettel, we have Fernando Alonso’sFerrari signed jug, Rubin Barrichello’s full suit, a football signed byLionel Messi, Magic Johnson has signed a vest, Venkat Prasanna has signed amemorabilia. Kapil Dev had made donations last year and this year too, he hasparticipated.
Prakash Padukone has also donated to the NGO in the past, and Iwill always be available to help him when in need.
It should not bejust my NGO, my money, its India’s victory, not just mine. Everyfoundation and NGO should help each otherout.
I spoke to Koel on the phone; I didn’t know shewas pregnant. I was going for a book release in Mumbai and I called her to askher if she was coming. She was like, ‘don’t you know I ampregnant’, and I told her I didn’t. Her show must have come to anend because she’s seven months pregnant. I wish her the best because it isher last trimester and it is tricky. I hope she’s healthy, thebaby’s healthy. I am very happy forher.
Pataudi donated his blazers last year for my auction.I have many thoughts on that man. Rarely has Indian sport met or had the goodfortune to be connected with such an incredible thinker. He was a fantasticinspiration. When he coached me for three months, he said, never put your handsin your pocket, never; it’s the wrong attitude; it just wasn’tcricket for him. He taught me how to behave on the field, to be strong underpressure, he taught us how to be aggressive, but not nasty and in terms of howto play, he taught me how to play hard but fair.
When I met him Iwanted to tell him what my NGO does, he said no need, I know you, you’rean ethical, talented boy and that’s good enough for me. I really misshim... he was extraordinary.
